These small paper clay sculptures are the result of a year of intense work and of a kick in the guts experienced at a protest in Cardiff against the mass killing in Gaza.  A group of Palestinian people had brought pictures of starving children and a big black box which played the sounds of bombs hitting buildings and people.

But it is not just about Palestine.  It is also about that part of human beings which turns to vicious violence and there are very many more places where this is taking place.  And it is not just about war.  It is also about those people, of whom just a few are represented here, who are brave and dedicated enough to turn out on the streets, week after week, year after year.  People who stand up and sing, who bang pots, who hold up signs, who risk prosecution and even death because they know that a wrong, a grievous wrong is being committed.

This work is dedicated to them.

The white flag that accompanies several of the figures represents, not, as it often does, surrender, but a plea for peace, a respite from torture and the threat of a vicious, horrific death.
